Is Ageplay good for your health?

If you’ve ever been to an AB/DL convention you may have noticed the same thing I have, the ageplayer time warp. Many ageplayers appear to be younger than they actually are, many are more vibrant and active than you’d expect and you sometimes find yourself wondering “Are they in their 20s? 30s? 40s?” It can be hard to tell without some sort of a time anchor. “I saw the original Lion King in theaters and…”

It’s a puzzling phenomenon to be sure but for years I’ve accepted that maybe the mixture of a community that glorifies youth and some members of the community staying away from things like smoking because it isn’t childlike explained it. There may be a third factor at work though.

In the late 70s the psychologist Ellen Langer set up an experiment where 2 groups of elderly men were asked to live in a refurbished monastery. One group was treated to an experience where they lived life as they would have two decades prior. Compared to the second group that was sent to a retreat and was told the experiment was about reminiscing, the men of group 1 were found to have better memory, vision, hearing, and physical strength. Other studies have also shown that there seems to be an unexplainable correlation between the age a person feels and their health.

Given this information, maybe doctors should be prescribing little space.
